Only had unit for a few days and it stopped working.Motor ran,but did not use any water.
I emptied it of all water, put some vinegar in, ran that through,it now works great.
Now, I put a few drops of vinegar in every other fill.
As far as the moldy smell, I use a little Sol u Mel in every two or three fills----no mold.(Sol u Mel kills mold spores and dust mites and helps with alot of other "chores" around the house.

Great product March 22, 2007 P. Schneider (Colorado Springs, CO) 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
I bought one 6 months ago after going through a couple more expensive ones in the last five years. This is the easiest to work with and keeps the humidity up in a space larger than its designed for. Have bought two more for other family members.
Excellent product August 23, 2008 D. Flaster 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
As quiet as advertised, and the quietest humidifier I have ever bought or prescribed for patients in 50 years. Highly recommended, especially for bedrooms. Sometimes we have to check to see if it is working!
Quiet, effective, and moist December 22, 2008 Chinaski (Portland, Oregon) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is the second humidifier that I have purchased (the first for my son, this one for me). My son's--purchased from a different company--I am sad to say, does sound like a plane during lift off (though it provides lovely white noise in his room, it was not preferable any place else). This humidifier, on the other hand, operates quietly and it produces great room moisture. I have it positioned about 12 feet from my bed, and--at high speed--I can feel a moist wind across my face. Really worth the money, and I would highly recommend it.
I love this humidifier June 12, 2009 Mary Poppins (Chicago, IL United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is by far the best humidifier I've ever purchased - I'm surprised it's gotten so many bad reviews. It puts a whole heckuva lot of moisture into the air - you can really feel the difference in the room. We live in an extremely dry apartment, so I really needed something that worked well. It also never never leaks - a problem I've had with many humidifiers. We have it sitting directly on a piece of wooden furniture with no harm done.
I don't find the tank design particularly cumbersome. Perhaps it isn't the BEST design, but I've never come even close to dropping it and I have no problem getting it to balance sufficiently as I fill it.
The filters need replacing somewhat frequently, but so have the filters for all other machines I've used - this one is no worse.
The only complaint I think is valid is that it IS a little loud on the high setting. I prefer this, myself, as I like white noise while I sleep. Also, the breeze from it is pretty cool, which I also like. If you don't like the breeze, it should be easy to aim away from you.
