MODIFIABLE!!! December 18, 2007 H. Kjar (Herriman, UT USA) 112 out of 112 found this review helpful
This product was 3.5 stars, until I realized I don't have to use only their cleaning solution and pads! Now this product is awesome!!! It has always worked better than a mop, of course. But now it works better than it did originally!
#1- I bought a better, reusable, cleaning pad (from my local grocery store) that sticks to the wet jet. The pad is more absorbable, so it doesn't leave a layer of dried solution all over the floors.
#2- The cleaning bottle of solution that "can't be opened" actually can be! All you need is a pair of pliers and the top screws right off. Put your favorite/cheaper cleaning solution inside and the top screws right back on.
Don't know what people are complaining about... November 20, 2005 Laura Andrews (Portland, OR) 105 out of 108 found this review helpful
I have to say... I must be lucky or something. I have never had a problem with my swiffer wet jet -- except the time I put a pad on upside down... or should I say downside up :) I rarely fill out these review things, but I think only the angry are reviewing this product, so I had to write. I LOVE the product. It is true, you have to get up as much free roaming dirt and particulates as possible before using it. I use the regular swiffer first and a dustbuster occasionally (I bet the combo swiffer with the vacuum would work great). If you do that and you don't have a huge mess to clean, this thing works great. It does leave chemical on the floor, which will spot on shiny tile, but for matte tile and other sealed flooring, it works wonderfly with NO build up -- it doesn't smell bad either. The batteries last a long time. The cleaner does too if you don't spray it all over the place -- a little goes a long way. Foe the people who worry about "disinfecting" the floor... you are nuts. One stroll across the floor and the bacteria/viruses are BAAAAACK, and who eats off the floor anyway... babies maybe... good for their immune systems, I say. FYI Steam cleaning the floor doesn't kill anything. I have one of those too, this is better. I have written enough! Get one and try it!
Granted, It's Not As Good As Sex, But... March 25, 2006 FL Counselor (Orlando, FL) 34 out of 38 found this review helpful
My first Swiffer Wet Jet finally broke down after three years of use, not bad for a product that you can buy here for $18.99, and usually find even cheaper in stores.
Since I live in Guatemala, I had to wait months for a new one to arrive. Now, I am the furthest thing from a "neat freak," (as mom would readily attest) but I certainly did miss it.
Although, only when I walked...
Even though I had to pay an extra $26 for shipping and customs, it was still an incredible bargain.
Not only are my floors finally clean again, but I don't procrastinate doing them like I did when I only had a useless old mop.
While waiting for the Wet Jet to arrive, once I did try smearing filthy putrid water from a mop bucket, and I swore never again. I just let my floors get dirty until the Wet Jet finally came.
The criticisms I have read here are ridiculous. People actually complained because they have to sweep the floor before they mop?
How lazy can one be?
I would hate to see the filth on their floors if they never even sweep before they mop!
Yes, the cleaner does spray out a few inches in front of the mophead. I couldn't imagine wanting it any other way. If you are trying to hit a particular spot, just step back a few inches, dude.
Duh...
It is best to first sweep with a broom, then go over the floor with the Swiffer sweeper which statically attracts hairs and fine particles that the regular broom misses, and then finish with the Wet Jet. Three passes, but mopping with the Wet Jet is just as easy as sweeping - no bending, no wringing, no mess.
Just put it to the barefoot test and you'll be amazed. Walk around before and after it dries, and you will cannot help but see and feel the difference on the soles of your feet.
I also have some allergies, but the cleaner doesn't bother me at all.
The only negative is that you can go through the floor cleaner quickly, and it is not cheap. However, the pads are hardly a significant expense.
Thank god I got my Wet Jet back!
The Easy Way To Mop May 30, 2009 Avid Reviewer (San Jose, CA) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Swiffer Wet Jet works well on tiles, linoleum, and hard wood floors. The huge downside to it is the cost of replacing the cleaning pads and cleaning solution.
However, there is a an alternative to the Swiffer Wet Jet Replacement Pads called Simplee Cleen Microfiber Refills. These replacement pads are washable and reusable.
And if you're willing to put in some elbow grease, there's even a way to refill the cleaning solution bottle (see Refilling The Bottle *).
Assembly
--------
The Swiffer Wet Jet requires some assembly (no tools needed). Once assembled, it cannot be dissembled.
The Swiffer Wet Jet requires 4 AA batteries to operate.
Functionality
-------------
The cleaning pads are very absorbent so they pick up even large spills very quickly. The pads also pick up dirt and grime very well when used with the Wet Jet cleaning solution.
The bottle containing the Wet Jet cleaning solution is designed to thwart any attempts to refill it. But if you're willing to put in some elbow grease, you can defeat the design and make the bottle refillable. See Refilling the Bottle *.
The cleaning head of the Wet Jet can be swiveled from side to side to angle it to clean around corners and hard-to-reach areas.
The button to dispense the cleaning solution is conveniently located on the handle.
There's a scrubbing strip (replaceable) on the side of the head for tackling stubborn dirt and grime.
Durability
----------
The shaft of the Swiffer is made of aluminum, which makes it very lightweight but strong. The Swiffer Wet Jet is very durable (I've had mine for well over a year).
* Refilling The Bottle
----------------------
There's a way to remove the cap of the Swiffer Wet Jet bottle to refill it with your favorite cleaner. Here's how:
- (1) Bring a pot of water to a boil.
- (2) Dip the cap (and ONLY the cap) of an EMPTY (used) Swiffer bottle into the hot water. Leave it in for about a minute.
- (3) Remove the cap from the hot water and IMMEDIATELY wrap a towel around the cap (to protect your hands from the heat) and twist the cap. It should come right off. Let the cap cool.
- (4) There are jagged teeth around the inside of the cap - these are responsible for "catching" the neck of the bottle to prevent the removal of the cap. With a pair of nail clippers, carefully snip these off.
- (5) Refill your Swiffer bottle with your favorite cleaner. Note: refilling the bottle with bleach or chemicals that leave a residue will cause the nozzle of the Swiffer Wet Jet to clog over time! Tap water is also a no-no as it leaves behind mineral deposits ("hard water").
Conclusion
----------
The Swiffer Wet Jet is a durable and easy-to-use mop. You can cut the cost of cleaning pads by getting the reusable/washable Simplee Cleen Microfiber Refills. If you follow the instructions on Refilling The Bottle * above, you can even save on the cleaning solution.
Good for large or small jobs February 23, 2006 Alena's Zoo* (PA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
We just got this upgraded mop after having a Clorox one which broke at the base aft 4 weeks. I like that the chemical is sprayed evenly and does not make puddles. It is also not a sticky kind. Clorox type made our marble floor sticky, this is fine. Picks up pretty much everything that our puppy leaves on the floor. I do sweep before using it (or any mop for that matter) and it does the job great. It's comfortable not too heavy not too light and works just great. I have a very sensitive nose, but the chemical does not disturb me and makes room smell nice, at least till my puppy's next escapade... I mop our entire 3800 sq ft house at least 3 times per week and it works as good as doing small jobs like muddy footies or small puddles of whatever nature. What I like about it- it works like a feminine hygiene product- sucks dirt in and keeps it in, instead of just relocating it into a different spot and just spreading it even on the entire surface of the floor like normal mops do.
